Men are usually very hard to read - even after years of marriage! Though in general men are very easy to understand. You can always tells if a man likes you due to his body language.

If he stands close to you in a social setting, almost as if your best friend would (with perhaps a slight accidental touch) he likes you! If he leans in when in conversation then he definately likes you!

The one time this is false is if the man is gay - in which he would be acting as the 'best friend.'

If a man comments on your hair or appearance he really likes you as usually men do not bother - to which he is looking for an excuse to say something nice to you.

When you are talking, if a man looks more at your chest than at your face he does not like you, but he likes your body, stay away from this guy!!!!

Indeed I don't, and I would bet that neither do you, which is why this song is such a romantic masterpiece. Steven Tyler sings full throttle, but the sentiment is still tender and real. The opening few words say it all: "I could stay awake just to hear you breathing ..."

"Lotta Love" by Neil Young

The Canadian hippie with the weirdest, and at the same time, coolest voice takes a break from harassing the “Southern Man” with this tender ballad. Check out Nicolette Larson’s version, which is a tad more 70s disco-funk (yes, there’s a disco cover of a Neil Young song!)

"The Look of Love" by Dusty Springfield

“The Look of Love” evokes images of mod, swinging London, but Dusty’s voice oozes sensuality and soul that reminded many of the sounds of 60s Detroit. This one is the perfect soundtrack for your next stay-at-home dinner for two.

Honestly, the lyrics are pretty hard to decipher for this one. Is she singing about a love no one understands? Is this person someone who keeps hurting her yet she’s in love? It’s rather icky in places, with talk closing veins and bleeding love all over the place. Regardless, it’s a beautiful melody with beautiful vocals. Just beware of dedicating this to any potential sweethearts who may get the wrong idea.

"Unchained Melody" by Righteous Brothers

This song is almost obligatory in any list of love songs across the years. It’s a toss up whether this or “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” is the better song, but if we’re talking romance, we’ll go with the uplifting harmonies of “Unchained.”

"You Were Always On My Mind" by Willie Nelson

You may not think “romance” when you think of Willie, but the man’s all heart. Underneath that scraggly beard and the bandana is a sensitive man indeed. If you’re looking for a more upbeat song, check out Willie’s “Maria (Shut Up and Kiss Me),” a song that will make you want to grab a beer and dance.

"Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" by the Police

Faith Hill and husband Tim McGraw have sung a few romantic duets, but her solo hit made a huge impression on those who can appreciate a good love song. “Breathe” was a huge crossover hit and proved mainstream record buyers would accept a love song sung by a country singer.

"Protection" by Massive Attack, featuring Tracy Thorn

Love is the drug, scientists say

Being in love is physically similar to the buzz of taking drugs and also has withdrawal symptoms, an expert on addiction has said.

Dr John Marsden says dopamine - the drug released by the brain when it is aroused - has similar effects on the body and mind as cocaine or speed.

"Attraction and lust really is like a drug. It leaves you wanting more," the National Addiction Centre head said.
His findings will appear in a BBC programme to be broadcast next month.

Pounding heart

"Being attracted to someone sparks the same incredible feelings no matter who you are. Love really does know no boundaries," he said.

According to Dr Marsden - a chartered psychologist - the brain which processes emotions becomes "fired up" when talking to someone it finds attractive.

The heart pounds three times faster than normal and causes blood to be diverted to the cheeks and sexual organs, which causes the feeling of butterflies in the stomach, he says.

However, as with cocaine and speed, the "hit" is only temporary, though it can last between three and seven years, he added.

Perfect partner

Dr Marsden's research for the BBC's Body Hits series suggests people look for similar features to themselves in a partner as they are searching for characteristics in their mother and father, who have already successfully raised a child.

"It might look like we are all after the perfect partner to wine and dine but underneath, our animal instincts are seeking out an ideal mate to share our genes with."

"We tend to go for the smell of somebody who has a very different immune system and that stops you fancying your family.
"Our biology drives us to find a perfect compromise between sameness and difference and we strike that balance all the time when it comes to choosing faces and smells," he said.

Sex trap

The research also suggests sex is booby-trapped to make partners bond.

"Your body has evolved over millions of years with one aim - to go forth and multiply, so while having kids may not be on the agenda just yet your body has a few tricks up its sleeve to drag you in that direction," he said.

According to the research the more two people have sex together, the more likely they are to bond.

"We all know you can have sex without falling in love but if you have enough sex with the same person there's a good chance you will hit the body's booby-trap which is there to tip you head over heels into love," said Dr Marsden.

"So your body goes all out to make you bond with your partner and that makes love highly addictive and the withdrawal sucks."

Courting!

The "Courting Phase" does not refer to the courtship process which precedes a relationship.

The courtship process is when you attempt to charm someone into forming a relationship with you. The courting phase, however, is the very beginning of a new relationship itself; just after a successful courtship.

In the courting phase, both parties maintain that fascinating charm which they used to attract their partner in the first place. The courting phase is where most broken promises & exaggerate words are said as you are still trying to impress each other.

Things like 'I've never felt this way about anyone else before' or 'I think we have something special between us' are said. Although these statements are made with good intentions, they are often inaccurate and are based mainly on feeling as oppose to logic.

A couple in the courting phase also tend to be very "playful" with one another and prefer to spend every free moment together.

Although not every relationship passes through this courting phase, it happens often enough. Just make sure you are beyond this point before you start taking any serious steps in the relationship.

Walking the walk

Have you ever seen the way City Goers walk?

They stride very quickly, head down, eyes on the ground (or anywhere that will prevent them from making eye contact of any kind), and plow through anyone and anything in their way to get to their destination as quickly and directly as possible.

Now I don't mean to pick on these people (I WAS one for years!). In fact, there's a REASON why most of us seem to walk the same way. With overwhelming crowds, crime, people begging for money, and solicitors trying to sell them something on every street corner, they don't want to ATTRACT any attention.

However, if you're in a safe, well-lit area and are familiar with your surroundings, I want to encourage you to remember the words "Don't walk like a City Walker."

Try walking this way instead: shoulders back, head up, straight posture, moderate (not fast!) pace, arms swinging slightly. You want your walk to say "I'm confident" and "I'm open to possibilities."

If you're finding it difficult to cultivate a confident walk, try this exercise. (It might sound a little goofy but believe me, it works!

Pick a song with an upbeat theme and a good, moderate beat. This is going to be your theme song. (Can't think of one?

Here are 3 suggestions: "Put Your Records On" by Corinne Bailey Rae,
"Suddenly I See" by KT Tunstall, or "The Sweet Escape" by Gwen Stefani.)

Load the song on your iPod or pop the CD in your walkman and take it with you for a "practice walk." Walk to the beat (this is subtle- you're not DANCING, you're just getting a good pace to your steps), breathe, enjoy the lyrics, think positive thoughts, and smile. You'll be amazed at how walking to your theme song will give you a boost.

Now the next time you're out and about, I want you to remember how you felt with your theme song. Hear the song in your head and walk as if it's playing. Pay attention to how your face feels. Are you scowling without even meaning to? If so, soften the muscles in your face and allow your mouth to curl up ever so slightly into an almost-smile.

Widen your eyes just a bit so that you appear awake, interested in your surroundings, and excited about the world around you.

Now notice how people who pass you begin to take notice of you. It's subtle, but I guarantee that those who aren't completely lost in their own little worlds will acknowledge you in some way.

Men might even smile back or say hello! (If this doesn't happen right away, don't be discouraged. Just practice this confident walk wherever you go from now on, and you will soon notice a difference.)

Step out in style!

If you really want to attract men, you might need to step up your style a notch... and NOT for the reason you may think. I recommend wearing a colorful and flattering outfit not just because you'll turn heads (though you WILL), but because of the way it will make YOU feel.

Here's an illustration: When I get up at the crack of dawn to walk my dog, I usually roll out of bed into a sweat suit, throw my hair into a ponytail, and hide behind my biggest, darkest sunglasses. I KNOW I look like crap, so I pray that I don't run into any neighbors who want to strike up a conversation or pet my dog. And usually, no one even looks my way.

When you put less than your best effort into your appearance, not only will you blend into the background, but you probably won't feel up to meeting someone new anyway.

When you look your best, however, it changes your whole demeanor. You know the phrase "take PRIDE in your appearance?"

Well, when you're proud of how you look, your posture will straighten up, you'll feel more confident, you'll be much more likely to make eye contact, smile, and possibly even strike up a conversation with someone new.

That energy (fueled by self-esteem) will be incredibly ATTRACTIVE to others.

How to's... part four - How to be concious of body language

Retrack Introductions read a surprising statistic the other day: only 7% of communication is verbal (that means 93% is nonverbal body language).

In other words, your actions (very literally) speak louder than your words.

If a man spots you across the room but you have your arms folded across your chest, that sends the subconscious signal "Stay away. I'm closed off."

Conversely, if your posture is good and your shoulders are back, opening up your frame, it sends the message that your heart is open to possibilities (even if he's not consciously aware of it).

When you're engaged in conversation, leaning in toward him conveys interest (that's when being in a loud, crowded bar can work to your advantage! It gives you a legitimate reason to lean in and speak in one another's ear, which creates a connection).

If you're seated, crossing your legs and pointing them toward him also sends the unspoken message that you're interested. Very literally, it is the act of aligning your body with his that signals, "we're in line with one another."

So don't forget to look out for the signs!

How to's... part three - How to make him feel important!

We are sure it comes as no surprise to you that men love to feel important, useful, and that their opinion is valuable. (Who doesn't, really?)

That's why one of the easiest ways to make yourself approachable to a man is to ask for help.

For example, try one of these ice breakers on the next guy that catches your eye:

"Excuse me, can you tell me how to get to Smith Street?"

"My friends and I are looking for a good happy hour around this neighborhood. Can you recommend a place?"

"What are you drinking? That looks good...Should I order one?"

"Do you have a pen I can borrow?" (This can really get the ball rolling if he wants to ask for your number!)

Of course you should be sincere and genuinely have a need for his help, or it could come off like one of the dreaded cheesy lines we talked about in our last post!

How to's... part two - How to spark up spontaneous conversation

Sometimes, a man might be too shy, too preoccupied, or too oblivious to his surroundings to initiate a conversation with you. That doesn't mean that you have to let the opportunity pass you by!!

Retrack Introductions is a big fan of stressing the importance of letting the man make the first move, but by that I mean asking for your number or setting up a date.

Just saying a friendly "hello" to someone does NOT constitute making the first move in my book (as long as it's confident and without an air of desperate expectation, that is!).

Let's say you you were at Starbucks and you were standing in the pickup area when the barista called out "MOCHA-CHOCA-LATTE for Erica!"

You knew that your dream man had also ordered a Mocha-Choca Latte. This was the perfect opportunity to acknowledge your shared love of the same beverage as a possible way to break the ice and spark up a conversation.

What if, instead of dashing out the door, you grabbed your drink, tipped it toward your dream man in as if you were toasting "cheers!" and said a funny, innocuous little thing like, "Breakfast of Champions!"

Maybe he would have simply smiled. But maybe - just maybe - he would have said, "You're telling ME. I can't even function until I've had two of those..." Bonding over your caffeine habit might lead to introducing yourselves by name, even exchanging business cards or making a date.

You never know...just by being the one to go out on a limb and initiate conversation, you could be opening the door to a special connection with a new man!

How to's... part one - how to get his attention without of prop!

Retrack knows when a man wants to meet you, he'll look for any reason under the sun to strike up a conversation.

By now, most guys have gotten the memo that women hate cheesy pick up lines ("Can I borrow a 10p? My mum told me to call her when Ifell in love..." BLECH!!!) and they're left wondering how to break the ice.

Let's help them out!

Any kind of prop - your dog, a t-shirt with a funny slogan on it, your tennis racket slung over your shoulder, a sweatshirt with your alma mater's logo, a funky piece of jewellery, a book with an intriguing title on the cover - these are all things that a man might feel compelled to make a comment on or approach you about.

Perfect example: My friend Amy has the most fabulous pants.

She calls them her "chicken wire pants." She found them at a vintage store - they're bright orange and they have the pattern of - you guessed it - chicken wire stamped all over them. (Trust me, words don't do them justice.)

One day she was strolling down the street when she heard a man's voice say, "Excuse me..."

When she turned around, Amy was surprised to see a handsome guystanding there. "I'm sorry to bother you but I just HAD to tell you how great those pants are!!!"

Amy, of course, was flattered and they struck up a conversation.

The hot guy asked for her number and took her out to dinner!

(She changed her pants for the occasion.)

Now, the chicken wire pants aren't for everyone (Amy is a brave girl who can pull ANYTHING off with her spunky attitude and radiant smile), but you get the picture. Arrange to meet for coffee or lunch rather than dinner.

Not only are you safer in the day but you don't waste time if it doesn't work. Help prevent any unwanted chasing (which might turn into stalking) by being polite but not leading them on. If you don't fancy them, just say '"You're a lovely person, but unfortunately, not what I was looking for."
Stick to an area that's well lit with lots of people around.

It's a good idea to meet in a place where you're known so the person you're with can be identified. Chat away to the waiter/waitress so it's obvious you've been seen with them.
Don't invite strangers to your home and don't go to theirs until you know them very well.
Trust your gut instinct and listen carefully to their relationship history. Are they using the service for the right reasons or are they just after sex?
Give the details of your date to several friends - where you'll be, the time you'll meet, the person's name, phone number and address. Get them to phone you an hour into the date to check you're OK; you phone them a few hours later to report in again.

For men this is standard practise and for women, this process is becoming increasingly common. If you are thinking of asking someone on a date consider the following quick Retrack dating tips:

1. Why are you asking them out, is it for the right reasons and what do you expect as a result of them saying yes or no?

2. Be prepared that the person you ask may say no and in which case do not take the rejection personally.

3. When asking someone out choose your moment carefully and practise what you might say in advance so that you don't appear tongue-tied.

4. If the person you ask says yes, ensure you already have thought of a place, date and time for the date so that you display signs of thoughfulness.

5. Be prepared for the person asking why you want to date them so that you are able to flatter and create a sense of trust immediately. People can be wary and they may want to know some reasosn behind your request. Better, anticipate this by saying "would you like to come to dinner, I have always thought you are great fun..".

6. Make sure that your request for a date does not pressurize the person in any way. If they want to think about it, let them. But don't chase.

7. Make sure that when you ask someone on a date you smile and keep things fun and happy. Being confident and smiley will elicit a far more positive response.

8. If you ask someone on a date, make sure that you actually intend to go through with it. Standing people up is not allowed.

9. Try to avoid dutch-courage such as using alcohol to boost your courage levels as this will often backfire.

10. Don't ask someone out when they are in a group of friends. Timing is everything.

Retrack Introductions Wine Tasting Singles Event was fabulous!

Some of you may have heard about the Wine Tasting Singles event we hosted at The Hide Bar in Bury St Edmunds on Wednesday evening.

I am please to report it was a huge success. Around 30 people attended and joined in with the Wine Tasting, which was lead by a Mayfair Wine Merchant. So we all certainly learnt a lot!

We had two glasses in each hand and compared the different tasting wines. It was very enjoyable and for those who didnt wish to drink all of the samples, there was a bucket to dispose your wine into!

The wine was accompanied by some light nibbles and some love themed goody bags.

The event was organised by a range of people including The Best of Bury, Apparition Marketing & Design, Suffolk hampers and of course the Hide Bar.

Thank you to all who attended and those involved in making it happen!

How Much Do Looks Matter?

Some of you may have heard of the new dating series called Dating in the Dark (a show with 6 episodes in its first season.)

This leads us to thoughts about attraction, chemistry, and how much looks really matter to singles and dating couples?

In the show, a three men and three women date each other, in the dark. They all meet in a group setting initially in total darkness, then the singles each choose who they'd like to go on a private dark date with.

Then another date takes place where the singles get matched by compatibility, and the last date is singles' choice.

In the meantime the singles get to see an aspect of the opposite sex that is normally quite private, such as their luggage or a tour of their home, and they also are asked to draw what they think their favorite match looks like using a professional sketch artist.

At the end of the show, the singles choose one person they want to 'see' are shown each other, and then they decide if they'd like to date some more or go their separate ways.

Men who were adamant they'd never date a woman who was 'thicker around the middle' didn't care when they found a connection, women walked off the set because their date was an inch too short even though the mutual atraction was obvious, and people who made out with each other extensively in the dark and pegged their date to a tee in the sketch artist portion of the show suddenly questioned their interest when they saw their mystery date for the first time.

7 Natural Aphrodisiacs

An aphrodisiac is a substance which is used in the belief that it increases sexual desire.

Here are some of the most common ingredients used in products available online, in health food stores and drugstores and through some naturopathic doctors.

Keep in mind that as non-drug supplements, these ingredients cannot legally make medical claims. Health Canada has not approved any of them as aphrodisiacs.

• Damiana

A plant native to Mexico and the southern United States and used for centuries for its aphrodisiac qualities. Used to treat impotence in men, and difficulty in achieving orgasm in women.

• Gingko biloba

A tree native to China. May improve blood flow. May help to counteract the desire-dampening effect of some antidepressants, especially in women.

• Horny goat weed

A plant native to Asia and well established in Chinese medicine. Appears to increase blood flow to genitals. Could possibly be as effective as Viagra but with fewer side effects, according to a 2008 study.

• Maca

A root grown in the Andes. Used for centuries in the belief that it would enhance sexual interest for men and women.

• Mucuna pruriens

A legume, also called velvet bean. Used in Ayurvedic medicine. Contains L-dopa, which converts to dopamine, a brain chemical that is involved in sexuality.

• Muira Puama

A Brazilian shrub and mild stimulant. A combination of muira puama and ginkgo biloba improved libido, intercourse and orgasm, according to a 2000 study of 202 women.

• Tribulus terrestris

A herb grown throughout the world. Appears to increase testosterone in some cases. Given to help with fertility, sexual function and menopausal symptoms.

Five myths about love...

Retrack Introductions presents five ways love is misunderstood... and the truth about how to love someone!

Fact... Love is as critical to our bodies as water.
Research shows that we need love emotionally and physically in order to stay healthy.

“Love is not sentimentality or something created by our culture,” says Sue Johnson, professor of clinical psychology at the University of Ottawa and author of Hold Me Tight. “It is an emotional bond and we are hardwired to find mates and create that bond.” Only in the past 15 years have scientists really started to understand what love is all about, she adds. So it’s little wonder some of our notions about love are mistaken, especially given all the fairytale endings perpetuated by pop culture. Here are five myths about love busted (and then mended).

1. “If love is meant to happen, it’ll happen.”

Almost nothing good in life happens by chance, yet many of us leave “finding” a life partner up to fate.

The truth: Love is learned.

“Where else in life would you ever take that approach? Would you think, ‘Oh well, if learning French is meant to happen, it will just happen?” asks Diana Kirschner, a psychologist in New York City and author of Love in 90 Days: The Essential Guide to Finding Your Own True Love. Love is an important activity that takes attention and intention, she adds. “Sure chemistry between two people ‘happens.’ But lasting love has to be worked on, nurtured and allowed to grow. And of course, you learn by making mistakes.”

2. “We just fell out of love.”
More often than not, couples drift apart when they don’t know how to share their emotional needs. Alienation and distrust follow. Johnson says that we put up a wall to protect ourselves, ironically reinforcing what we fear most: that our partner of choice isn’t there for us or that we are simply unlovable.

The truth: You choose love.

Love is not passive; it is an active event, according to Johnson. “You need to stay involved, and be open and engaged.” Securely attached people get angry, fight and hurt one another. But unlike people with an insecure emotional bond, they are able to turn around and talk about their feelings right away. In other words, precisely when you feel the most vulnerable and scared, you have to actively decide to take a risk and reach out to your partner, and in return try to give him reassurance, she says. It’s the only way to secure the bond.

3. “Men and women love differently.”
Gender stereotypes lead us to believe that, when it comes to emotions, men and women are polar opposites: real men don’t cry; women are never satisfied, etc.

The truth: The need to be loved is universally shared.

Women who believe all men really only want sex are underestimating their partner’s emotional depth. Johnson explains that our culture does not teach men how to ask for emotional connection and reassurance, whereas they are taught how to ask for sex (and so they do, often when they are feeling emotionally insecure). “Men think if they ask for reassurance women will despise them. But if you give them a chance you will discover they just want to be desired, too. When it boils down to deeper emotions, we have a lot in common.”

4.“If the sex fades, so does the love.”
Johnson says that so much emphasis in adult love is placed on sex. “We think love is sex.”

The truth: Love is about way more than the sex.

It is possible to have a long-term relationship that is still wildly passionate, but it is rare, says Johnson. You have to work at sex because it is novelty that nourishes the infatuation and obsession that underscore new relationships. Those feelings are not love. Once they fade, if a deeper emotional connection is there, even better sex is possible, according to Johnson. She says research shows people who have sex the most — and enjoy it the most are long-term married couples.

5. “Real love isn’t about dependency.”

We feel ashamed of our deeper attachments and emotional insecurities because in North American culture, we are taught that needing someone (especially true for men) is a sign of weakness.

The truth: A secure loving bond enables independence.

“Love is truly a source of emotional and physical resilience,” says Johnson. “We are mammals. Our bodies were designed to curl up around each other. We need to know we can call out to someone and they will come, as children, and that doesn’t go away when we are adults. It’s physiological.”

There’s a love pandemic happening in our world today and it is that we are spending time with each other without fully understanding why we are getting together.

3. Do I like, trust and respect this person and do they like, trust and respect me?

The responsibility for creating a deep, loving bond lies with you, and with your partner.

You both must be up for the challenges and rewards of intimacy, and what will make you both soulmates is your willingness to give yourself fully to the other.

Wearing provocative or inappropriate clothing risk making the wrong impression. You also need to feel comfortable and confident so wear something that makes you feel this way. Keep in mind what is appropriate to the venue.

Just because you can't smell the perfume from your body doesn't mean that you don't have enough of it. Apply the perfume on your pulse points such as behind the ears and on the wrists, and you're ready to go.

Consider to meet at a public place...

Even if you are dating someone you know, it is best to meet him or her at a public place such as a park or a restaurant. A public place provides safety and security.

Prepare a plan...

If you are familiar with your date, you should have an idea of his or hers likes and dislikes. Create a list of activities that you and your date would both love to do. Why reserve a table at an expensive restaurant if you date prefers to have a picnic by the park?

Men should still practice chivalry

Get prepared for dating.

If you really want to succeed in the dating game, be ready to commit to dating. Half-heartedness won't work. In fact, it won’t even get you half-way. Prepare yourself for the inevitable rejection we all face at some point in dating and commit not to give up.
Get your act together.

Begin a regime of looking your best. Join a gym, read health magazines, get fit and start a diet. Get your hair cut or styled and begin a new regime of good grooming or beauty treatment. Though it will not find you a date in itself, you will feel a million times more confident about yourself, and others can sense that.
Go shopping and treat yourself to new clothes and even a whole new look.

Get your image right, one that you can manage and live with, but one that flatters you. Don't try to be someone you’re not, but amplify and accentuate your positives. Throw out those tired jeans, old sweaters or cardigans and spruce yourself up. Your date will appreciate that you demonstrated some effort.
Think about what you want to gain from dating and what timeframes you expect.

Do you see yourself married within 2 years? If you do, then approach dating accordingly. If you are more laid back and don't take dating too seriously then ask yourself some honest questions about why you are dating and what you hope to achieve.
